The Salem Regional Office of Legal Aid Services of Oregon provides advice and representation to low-income citizens in Marion and Polk counties. Spanish speaking staff are available.
We are currently accepting new cases and are providing telephone and in-person appointments for new-client intakes.
Current walk-in hours are:
Monday: 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (closed from 12-1)
Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (closed from 12-1)

The Salem office offers full legal representation and brief advice for the following legal areas
Family Law and Protective Order cases when the applicant is a survivor of domestic violence, including divorce, child custody, and restraining orders, civil Stalking Protective Orders, Sexual Assault Protective Orders (SAPO) for survivors of sexual abuse, and Elderly Persons and Persons with Disabilities Abuse Prevention.
Housing Law, including wrongful eviction defense, termination of federally-subsidized or public housing, significant repair/habitability cases, cases involving discrimination against tenants, and other housing issues on behalf of domestic violence survivors.
Public Benefits, including TANF, Food Stamps/SNAP, Medicare or Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan cases, Unemployment Insurance denials or terminations, and Veterans Affairs. Social Security cases are limited to SSI and SSD overpayments and terminations only. Services also include long-term care terminations and involuntary move-outs, including cases arising in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult foster homes, terminations of in-home care, and reductions in caretaking hours.
Court-Imposed Debt/Fines, including elimination of court-imposed debt/fines, and challenges to court-imposed license suspensions after October 1, 2020, as the result of court-debt or fines, and court-initiated contempt proceedings for non-payment of court imposed debt or fines, and cases in which a court has used a collection agency charging more than he maximum collection fee permitted by law.
Immigration Law, is limited to referrals only of U visa, T visa, and VAWA cases.
Appellate Law, including a limited number of state-level civil or administrative appellate cases likely to broadly affect low-income Oregonians or domestic violence survivors.
Criminal Expungements cases will be screened for representation beginning in March 2023, for qualifying non-domestic violence offenses.
