Currently, the Native American Program provides direct legal representation in the following legal areas
- Wills and other estate planning assistance
- Probate in a tribal court, or involving federal trust property
- Guardianship in tribal court
- Criminal record expungement
We also provide services and support for other issues on a case-by-case basis. Historically, these have included:
- Protection of Natural Resources
- Economic Development
- Nonprofit Organizations
- Cultural and Archaeological Resource Protection
- Protection of Religious Freedom
- Indian Child Welfare Act Compliance
- Health Care
In general, to be eligible for free legal help from NAPOLS:
- You must be income eligible (under 125% of the federal poverty guidelines);
- a U.S. Citizen; and
- your legal need involves an issue pertinent to the Native Community. NAPOLS prioritizes Youth, Elders, and support of Tribal Courts.
