Bilingual English/Spanish Intake Specialist - Portland
Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO), is seeking a full-time Bilingual English/Spanish Intake Specialist for its downtown Portland office. This position is partially funded by a grant that is currently budgeted through August 2020. Full-time status is contingent upon continued grant funding.
LASO is a non-profit organization that represents low-income clients in civil cases. LASO’s eight regional offices serve the general low-income population throughout the state and two specialized statewide programs provide services to farmworkers and representation on Native American issues. LASO is an effective, high-quality legal services program committed to advocacy strategies that will have a demonstrable effect on community problems.
The Portland Regional Office of LASO (LASO-PRO) serves a poverty population of more than 200,000 in urban and rural Multnomah, Clackamas, Hood River, Sherman and Wasco counties.
• Screen potential clients and perform intake interviews mostly by phone.
• Identify legal issues.
• Provide detailed referrals and general legal information.
• Serve as a Spanish interpreter and complete Spanish translation assignments.
• Provide general clerical support to busy law office including filing, scheduling, entering data into a case management system, and other secretarial and receptionist tasks as needed.
0–4 years of experience.
The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal and stress management skills, is highly organized and has experience with phone systems / reception tasks. Computer skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Self-motivated with good judgment. Maintain a calm demeanor in a demanding environment. Ability to provide victim-centered and culturally competent legal assistance to crime victims/survivors. Applicants must be proficient in Spanish and English and be able to speak Spanish fluently and professionally.
