Staff Attorney - Central Oregon Regional Office (Bend)
The Central Oregon Regional Office of Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) located in Bend is a seeking full-time staff attorney. The attorney will provide legal services to low-income individuals who present with various poverty law issues, including family law and domestic violence protection orders, housing, public benefits, and employment work.
LASO is a non-profit organization that represents low-income clients in civil cases. LASO’s eight regional offices serve the general low-income population throughout the state and two specialized statewide programs focused on services to farmworkers and on issues impacting Native Americans. LASO is an effective, high-quality legal services program that is committed to advocacy strategies having the broadest possible impact on client community problems. LASO is actively working to build an inclusive organizational culture that centers on racial equity. The attorney will handle a varied poverty law caseload of clients. The office is highly interested in applicants who have a passion for family law and trial work, though the successful applicant will be open to working on all types of poverty law matters, and a varied poverty law caseload is expected. The position will provide representation in Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties. Preference will be given to candidates local to Central Oregon or who are actively looking to move to Central OR.
Proven interest in and commitment to advocacy for the legal rights of low-income Oregonians. Enthusiasm, creativity, good judgment, initiative, and willingness to work collaboratively. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to anti-bias principles, cultural competency and addressing systemic racism. LASO has a hiring preference for candidates who are bilingual in Spanish and/or another language frequently spoken by the communities we serve. Membership in the Oregon State Bar, eligibility for reciprocity or a willingness to take the next bar exam.
Compensation is based on a 35-hour work week. Salary range for an attorney is $61K - $100K annually depending on experience. Additional compensation for bilingual ability. Full benefits package including individual and family health, vision and dental insurance coverage; 6% employer retirement contribution; generous paid holidays, vacation and sick leave; and paid moving expenses.
